When You Feel Distant from God, Do This First...

The Bible Isn’t Just a Book. It’s Where God Meets You.

When I feel lonely—disconnected, unsure, or like I’m walking through something no one else fully understands—I go to the Bible, Reader.

It’s become an anchor for my soul.

In those quiet, aching moments, I ask:

“Who in Scripture went through something like this?”
“Did they cry out to God like I am now?”
“Did He hear them… help them… meet them?”

And every time, Reader—I find someone.

Elijah under the broom tree.

David hiding in a cave.

Peter, weeping after the rooster crowed.

Hannah, pouring out her soul in silent anguish.

Mary Magdalene, heartbroken in the garden, until Jesus called her by name.

They doubted. They hid. They broke. They prayed.

And God met them. Sometimes in silence. Sometimes with fire.

But always with love. Always with purpose.

And He will meet you too, Reader.

It’s in these pages that I remember something profound:

The Bible doesn’t hide our worst moments. It reveals God’s heart.

His righteous anger. His jealous love.

His relentless desire to bring us home—to heal us, restore us, and spend eternity with us.

Opening the Bible often reveals this rhythm:

Bad news about us… followed by astonishingly good news about Him.

This is the hope we live in.

That’s why we can’t live without the Word.

We can’t bypass it. We can’t replace it.

It’s the key to life.

Did you know? While ancient works like The Odyssey exist only in fragments, the Bible remains complete, spanning millennia, preserved word-for-word in over 3,000 languages. That alone is a miracle. No wonder it’s been called “God’s love letter to the world.”

This week on the Curious for Christ podcast, I had the joy of speaking with Philip Nation, publisher at Thomas Nelson Bibles—a man whose life work is to help everyday people re-engage with Scripture, whether they’re opening it for the first time or returning after a long season of silence.

(And yes—Thomas Nelson has been publishing Bibles since 1798. That legacy speaks volumes.)

We talked about:

  • What to do when you feel spiritually dry
  • How God sings over you (Zephaniah 3:17)
  • Why The Open Bible can give you fresh eyes, helpful tools, and renewed intimacy with God

If you’ve been feeling far from God, or unsure where to start again, I want to leave you with this prayer:

Lord, help us fall in love with Your Word again.
Let it convict us where we’ve wandered.
Let it comfort us where we’re weary.
Let it change us from the inside out.
Even when we feel unworthy, help us hear You singing over us.
And may we run—not from You—but into Your truth. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

With love and light,

When it feels like you're going in circles... Every step looks familiar...but you've changed. God is growing you in the spiral. Hi Reader, Lately, I’ve been noticing something strange at work. I recently started a new role on a new team, and yet… some of the work felt oddly familiar. Almost like I’d been here before. At first, it unsettled me, Reader. Was I stuck? Was I just repeating the same cycle again? But as I leaned in with God, I saw something deeper. I wasn’t repeating — I was being...

God is near—even when He feels silent. Hey Reader, Have you ever been in a season where God just feels… absent? I’m in a time like that right now. Life’s been full of risks, transitions, and new places I didn’t plan for. And while I’ve followed God for years, even now—He doesn’t always feel close. Growing up, I didn’t know God. And even now as a believer, it’s not always easy to stay grounded. I find myself crying out: “God, where are You?”“What’s the plan?” Sometimes I’m afraid I’ll bring...

Even in my fear and questions, God is teaching me that faith doesn't have to be flawless-it just have to be real... Not every prayer has an answer yet, but I'm still writing them down. This week’s podcast was all about walking by faith—not sight—especially when anxiety takes over. But here’s the truth behind the mic, : I didn’t record it from a mountaintop of clarity. I wrote it while staring at a whole lot of unknowns. In my heart. In my marriage. In conversations that are tender and honest...
