Does your body tense up? | Weekly newsletter from Alexandra

When your body tenses up, it's telling you something....

Hello Reader,

Have you ever been in a conversation where everything in your body just wants to retreat? You want to end it, to run, to just disappear. I've been there too, Reader.

Recently, in a season of growth in my marriage, I noticed a very specific pattern: my body would tense up in a difficult conversation with my husband. I'd feel my shoulders tighten, my stomach clench, and my mind would race with the desire to shrink back and let him have center stage.

We both come from traumatic pasts, and my impulse has always been to abandon myself so the other person can feel safe. But I am learning to trust that love does not mean giving up on myself. God has a purpose for me, his promises are also for me and I have to do my part to stay present and follow His guidance. The same goes for you, Reader.

So, I decided to try something different. I chose to stay.

In the micro-moments—those crucial 30 seconds between a thought and a choice—I decided to breathe instead of flee. I chose to stay present and let God’s lovingkindness ground me. To be honest Reader, it feels like a never-ending process. It is a constant practice, a back-and-forth dance of choosing faith over fear.

But I want to honor God by being present with the people in my life, and I know that each choice builds courage. The more I stay, breathe, and trust, the more God pulls me through, making me stronger and more grounded.

Reader, I want to urge you to pay close attention. In a difficult conversation or a challenging moment, what happens in your body?

  • Is your body tensing up?
  • How is your breathing?
  • What behavior are you naturally leaning toward?

Being aware is the first step to making a different, faithful choice in those micro-moments. The truth is, not doing it just brings more anxiety and unrest—the opposite of what God promises. Let's lean into the Spirit's guidance with confidence.

Are you ready to discover the 3 steps that are helping me walk in God's peace? Click here to listen.

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control."

With love and peace,

Being still in not failure — especially when God is the reason... "From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the Lord is to be praised." Psalm 113:3 Lately, I’ve been sitting with a lot, Reader — questions, emotions, and thoughts I didn’t expect. There were days when I felt like if this one thing doesn’t work out — it’s over. That if a deal doesn’t come through, or if breakthrough doesn’t happen soon, then maybe there’s no real hope left. I’ve had moments where I finally...

Your heritage may shape you, but God's love defines you... Where you come from matters, but it's the light above that defines you... This week, I want to share something very personal — a simple Ancestry.com update that led to a much deeper conversation with God about identity and worth. When my husband mentioned, “You have a new DNA match,” I brushed it off. I thought, I already know who I am. Half Belgian, half Bulgarian. I grew up in Europe. I have an accent — that’s me. Then I clicked...

The wrestle is real but it is not wasted... Romans 12:2 "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind". Have you ever been amazed by the butterfly, Reader? When it struggles to push out of the chrysalis, it looks painful. But scientists tell us that wrestle is what forces blood into the wings so it can fly. If you cut the butterfly out early, it wouldn’t make it. That’s how I’m making sense of my own life right now. And perhaps the same goes for...
