Stories that make Scripture come alive | Bi-Weekly Newsletter from Alexandra

Step Into the Story of Scripture...

Hi Reader,

Some of us have walked with Scripture for many years.

We’ve highlighted the same verses, underlined the same passages, and prayed through the familiar stories of Jesus, His followers, and the early church.

And yet — sometimes we forget that these were real people living in a real world.

Streets with dust beneath their feet.

Homes filled with fear, hope, and prayer.

A temple that stood in glory — and then fell.

Political tension, oppression, spiritual hunger, miracles, pressure, awakening.

We know the Bible is true.

But sometimes we struggle to feel the reality of it.

This is where historical storytelling matters, Reader.

It helps our hearts catch up with what our minds already believe.

It allows us to encounter God’s work in a tangible way — seeing what He did then, and what He is still doing today.

And that’s exactly what this week’s podcast conversation invites us into.

This Week’s Episode

Bringing the Early Church to Life: Cry for Jerusalem with Author & Scientist Dr. Ward Sanford

Dr. Ward Sanford is a hydrogeologist and researcher turned biblical historian, who has spent years studying first-century Judea and the writings of Josephus. From this work, he wrote a four-book historical Christian novel series called Cry for Jerusalem.

What I love about his writing is that it doesn’t invent stories to inspire us — it reconstructs the world where our faith was born.

His novels:

  • Honor the historical reality of Jesus
  • Build bridges between Jewish and Christian history
  • Bring to life the cultural tensions of the early church
  • Give voice to real men and women wrestling with faith, fear, hope, and survival

They remind us:

We are not so different from them, Reader.

They, too, lived in uncertain times.

They, too, faced pressure and confusion.

They, too, had to choose: Rome or God. Culture or calling. Comfort or courage.

Why This Matters

Fiction, when grounded in truth, helps us see and feel Scripture again.

And in a world searching for clarity, this matters more than ever.

Because the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus are not myth.

They happened in a real place, among real people — different times, same God.

Dr. Sanford’s research brings history, prophecy, and faith together in a way that strengthens confidence and awakens wonder.

Finding Christ in the quiet, the waiting, and the becoming... Hi Reader, Today we celebrate the most unexpected and beautiful gift of all: Jesus — God with us. Christmas reminds us that God did not enter the world through power, speed, or certainty — but through waiting. Through silence. Through trust. Through a young woman who said yes before she could see the outcome. Jesus came quietly, in the middle of the darkest night. He grew slowly. And yet, He changed everything. This year, Reader, God...

How telling God’s story strengthens your own... A tiny baby in a humble manger… the greatest gift ever given. Lately, in the middle of all the work, appointments, and unexpected conversations that fill my days, I’ve become more aware of something deeper happening beneath the surface:God keeps placing me in divine appointments. Moments I didn’t plan. People I didn’t expect to meet. Situations that feel too perfectly aligned to be coincidence. And yet—even when I know God is opening a door, it...

Happy Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving Morning Encouragement From My Heart to Yours... Good morning, Reader — and Happy Thanksgiving. Before the day begins, before the table fills and the house gets loud, I wanted to send you a little encouragement to carry with you into this holiday. Lately, God has been teaching me that thanksgiving doesn’t always grow in perfect seasons… it often grows in the ones that challenge us the most. Sometimes gratitude feels natural. Other times, it’s something we practice — something we...
