What's triggering your anxiety?

New Year, New Anxieties?

As the new year begins, I’ve found myself feeling overwhelmed. The weight of a fresh start, the desire to accomplish so much in 12 months, can feel daunting all at once. But as I sat with these feelings, I began to understand something important about myself, Reader.

For a long time, I’ve struggled with a deep-seated fear of the unknown, especially when it comes to new beginnings. I know I am not alone in this... But lately, I’ve realized that part of my anxiety stems from my dependence on others—especially the men in my life. From my dad, who was my rock before passing away, to my wonderful husband who now plays such an important role.

What’s been eye-opening for me is recognizing that this dependence isn’t just about relationships; it’s rooted in something deeper. It’s a heart issue that has shaped my view of trust and security.

What I’ve learned is that anxiety often arises from things I don’t fully understand about myself. But by acknowledging these feelings and sitting with them, I can see God’s grace in the process. Like the view from my apartment—watching the sunrise each morning. And just as the sun gradually breaks through the darkness, God's grace illuminates the parts of me that need healing and growth. He is revealing parts of me that I wasn’t ready to face before. And when I face them, I grow. I’m able to understand more about myself and trust in His presence, which brings peace.

In this week’s podcast episode, I talk about five steps that can help us overcome anxiety as we start a New Year!

The truth is, when we face our vulnerabilities and understand what triggers our anxiety, we allow room for growth. And it’s through this growth that we can reach our goals and dreams—not through sheer willpower or perfection, but by surrendering our weaknesses to God. As 2 Corinthians 12:9-11 reminds us, “When we are weak, He is strong.”

And you know what, Reader? Something else I’ve realized is that what we ultimately want isn’t just to reach our goals or chase big dreams. Ultimately, what we desire is God Himself. The Bible says He is our great reward. It’s not just about achieving what we set out to do—it’s about knowing Him in the process, building a deeper relationship with Him as we journey through life.

So, let’s lean into vulnerability. Let’s face ourselves. Let’s recognize what makes us anxious, dig deeper, and allow God to teach us through it. This is how we grow closer to Him and find peace in the midst of uncertainty.

Wishing you peace and growth in the new year Reader,

With love,
